Managing Director
Marcus first worked with the Festival in 1982 as an actor performing the roles of Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Edgar in King Lear for the Festival's inaugural season. Since then, he has served the Festival for fifteen years in both artistic and administrative capacities. He has a long history of working with other arts organizations in Santa Cruz. As a founding member of the now disbanded Bear Republic Theatre, he worked for ten years in various capacities including Technical Director, Community Programs Director and actor. In his four years with Tandy Beal & Company, he served as Associate Director and later as Managing Director. He has served on the Board of Directors for Actors' Theatre and last year was a member of a Santa Cruz City Schools Task Force to promote Performing and Visual Arts in local schools. Directing credits include a staged play-reading of Kate Hawley's The Oyster Bed at the Art Center Theatre and John Patterson's Parcheesied for the Ten Minute Play Festival for the Actors' Theatre in 1996. He studied Theatre and English at the University of Illinois, and holds a BFA in Theatre from California Institute of the Arts.
