2013 SHAKESPEARE SANTA CRUZ SUMMER SEASON VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
USHER: For this position, you must be able to stand for long periods of time and to confidently and safely navigate the stairs of the Mainstage and the slopes of the Festival Glen. You will be able to attend the performance you are ushering for and you will be asked to work during intermission and stay after the show to help clean-up. Attire is all black. Arrival Time: 90 minutes prior to Mainstage performances, and 2 hours prior to Glen performances.
GREETERS: These positions help direct people to the Glen, monitor the Glen entry lines, and answer any questions patrons might have. You will be able to see the entire performance, but you will be posted outside the venues until the performance starts. There are four greeter positions available for each performance. If you have limited mobility, these positions may work for you. Arrival Time: 90 minutes prior to Mainstage performances, and 2 hours prior to Glen performances.
GIFT SHOP ASSISTANT: This position helps set up and maintain the gift shop displays and assists patrons in the gift shop, but does not involve any cash handling. There is one gift shop position for each performance. With this position you cannot see the performance that you are working, but you receive a voucher to see a performance on another date of your choosing. The voucher is transferable. This would also be a good position for those whose mobility is limited. Arrival Time: 90 minutes prior to the performance.
USHER SEATS HAVE BEEN PREARRANGED IN BOTH THE MAINSTAGE AND THE GLEN.
Your House Manager will show you where to sit in both venues. If you are ushering in a group of family or friends, the House Manager will make every effort to seat you together, subject to availability of seating.
PARKING INFO: Parking on the UCSC campus is $4. You will receive more information about parking after signing up, but please allow an extra 15 - 20 minutes of travel time for parking and finding your way to the venues.
VOLUNTEER DATES: Please fill out the Volunteer Sign-up Sheet (see the top of this page) and mail, email or fax to it to the addresses on the sheet. It is best to include a few date options, if possible.
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST FILL OUT A WAIVER FORM EACH YEAR (even if you have filled one out before)
Please include the Volunteer Waiver form along with your show requests.
Please do not call to request dates. Confirmation is by email and you should receive confirmation within a week.
Choose your dates carefully! Late cancellations create difficulties for our house staff. If an individual from your group must cancel, please show up with the rest of your group, as large groups are impossible to replace. Click here to see our 2012 production calendar.
